Project Yellowknifer

6 Jan

I’m pretty jazzed to officially announce a personal photo project I’ll be working on over the next 10 months or so. The working title is called Project Yellowknifer and the idea is to celebrate Yellowknife’s characters through portraiture – the interesting, amazing, and unique people who make this city so extraordinary.

Over the next several months I will be contacting many of you to be part of this collection. The goal is for this body of work to culminate as a gala exhibition to be held in Yellowknife. I also aim to publish the work online and pitch the exhibit to galleries in the south to (hopefully) reach national and international audiences.

The attached video is only a small preview of what’s to come. Some of the images here you might be familiar with, others have never been published, and all of what I will photograph this year will be original work specifically shot for this project. Take a look…you might recognize someone! And don’t be surprised if I ask you to be photographed in the months ahead. All of us – the truckers, ice pilots, mothers, musicians, athletes, artists, and unsung heroes are a true representation of what it means to be called a Yellowknifer. Hope you can be part of it.
