Janet Pacey

Janet Pacey, illustrator.

If you don’t know Janet Pacey, you’ll at least know her work. Janet is an illustrator/graphic designer, and her signature characters, Ptarmi’s, are found on logos, letterheads, posters, houses, vehicles, quilts, cards, and just about anything else in Yellowknife. Her hottest items are the ubiquitous stuffed Ptarmi’s found on store shelves and homes across the city (and can be purchased here).

JP is a kid at heart. She has a wicked sense of humour and is about as creative as they come. No surprise she was super pumped when I asked if she would be cool in doing a shoot where she would dress up as a little kid and have a tea party with her dolls. “Can I wear a tutu and a crown?” she asked. Of course you can Janet. Of course you can.

Apart from her design work, Janet volunteers for a zillion things around the community and generally devotes most of her time to making YK a kickass town. A heart of gold.

One last interesting factoid (especially if anyone from the Soo is reading this): remember that restaurant just outside of Espanola that served the awesome ice-cream? It was called Pacey’s and Janet’s family owned it.

Northern Ontario be representin’!

The queen of Ptarmi Ptown.
